Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has unveiled its first virtual reality headset, which is not a standalone type like "Oculus Rift" and requires a smartphone to be inserted into the device to use it.
Unlike similar devices such as Samsung's "Gear VR", Xiaomi's zips in a smartphone inside it. The Chinese tech giant explained its gadget was designed to secure the smartphone from falling off.
The headset is made out of a combination of EVA and Lycra. According to Xiaomi, it is designed to prevent discomfort when using the headset for a long time. It could embrace 4.6-inch to 5.5-inch smartphones. EVA is an elastomeric polymer which has rubber-like soft and flexible characteristics. Lycra is a stretchable and durable fabric also known as Spandex.
Xiaomi added a new feature which other previous VR devices do not have. The headset has a button on top of it so that users can receive phone calls while using the device. Also, users can order a customized version by printing images of their like onto the front cover.
