Kangin, a troubled member of South Korean boy band Super Junior, appealed for mercy Wednesday as prosecutors demanded a fine of about 6,300 US dollars for drunk driving.

"I deeply repent and will do my best not to repeat this kind of wrongdoing," the singer told a district court in Seoul. Prosecutors demanded a fine of seven million won ($6,317).

His lawyer also called for leniency saying Kangin's career and future would fall into the darkness because he was involved in a second drunk driving accident.

Kangin was accused of driving a car after drinking with his friends on May 24. His car crashed into a street light in southern Seoul. The singer was slapped with a fine of eight million won for a drunk driving accident in 2009.
