Pre-orders for Samsung Electronics' new flagship premium smartphone Galaxy Note 7 have been put on hold in Britain amid safety concerns caused by a series of explosions while charging.

Samsung's British online store carried a message on its website: "Reserve is now closed. Pre-order will open from 8am tomorrow."

At least seven cases of Note 7's explosion have been reported since it was unveiled globally from August 19. The first case was reported by a South Korean online community on August 24.

Many Samsung fans have expressed concern as explosion seemed to have taken place while charging. Batteries for Note 7 have been provided by Samsung SDI Co., a key unit of South Korea's largest conglomerate, Samsung Group.

Some South Korean news organizations have reported there could be a recall to provide free battery exchange and repair.

TechRadar, a Britain-based online technology news outlet, said that one of the British networks has been asked to hold all Note 7 stock and recall it from stores at the request of Samsung.

"Presumably, this will be spread to all networks - we're investigating that one now," it said, adding Samsung is probably going to be pulling shipments while it investigates.

TechRadar quoted an official Samsung statement as saying: "In response to questions on Galaxy Note7, we are conducting a thorough inspection. We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers."
