South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics is set to release the "Black Onyx" version of its flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 7 in October despite a scandal over battery explosions that led to a crippling recall worldwide.
Last week the world's largest smartphone maker suspended sales of Note 7s and issued a global recall, admitting faulty batteries caused a series of explosions.
Samsung originally released three color themes (Blue Coral, Silver Titanium, and Gold Platinum) of Galaxy Note 7 on August 19, on expectations that the black color would be the least favored by consumers. The Blue Coral became a hit, taking up more than half of pre-orders.
Samsung now pins hopes on the Black Onyx but some experts are skeptical.
