South Korean mobile users are watching 257.8 percent more video on mobile data network than two years ago, a government statistics data showed.

According to a data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, South Korean mobile users watched 2,622.6 terabytes (TB) of videos on mobile data networks during the second quarter of this year. The number had increased by 257.8 percent from 732.8 TB of mobile data consumed on watching videos in the same quarter of 2014.

"Mobile users are watching more videos than ever because it is the most widely consumed content in the online and mobile environment." explained data analyst Lee Jae-il, "Because of users of mobile media, including Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, are using video as their means of communication."

Lee also pointed out that the mobile carriers' unlimited data plan helped the mobile users' media-consuming pattern. "A few years ago when not many people used the unlimited data plans, mobile users kept away from video contents because it used up a lot of mobile data, paying extra money as a result."

Meanwhile, South Korean mobile users are consuming an average of 210,000 TB of mobile data traffic every month. The number has nearly quadrupled since 2012's monthly average of about 55,000 TB.
