Samsung Electronics may remotely deactivate all Note 7s after a certain deadline probably on September 30, according to an online media report, as safety concerns caused by battery explosions prompted a ban on the smartphone in a number of countries .

Samsung has embarked on its global exchange programs for the Note 7s since it admitted on September 2 that faulty parts have caused a series of battery explosions. The recall came only two weeks after the new smartphone was unveiled.

Smart device specialist media Phonearena quoted "LimboJr", an online community Reddit user, as saying he was told by a Samsung representative that every recalled phone would be remotely deactivated after the end of September.

"This means that customers who bought the Galaxy Note 7 won't have other choices than to follow the procedure Samsung has put in place in countries where its phablet is available for purchase," the Reddit user said.

The user's claim is somewhat plausible, considering that Samsung now faces a recall of more than 2.5 million Note 7s globally, and nobody is sure when the replacement program will finally come to its end. In the meantime, Samsung risks more Note 7 explosions without fixed recall dates.

Samsung has not yet responded to Phonearena's report.
