South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics promised Tuesday to prevent the explosion of its troubled Galaxy Note 7 smartphones by forcing users to charge batteries by 60 percent of their capacity.
Samsung said the capacity of charging would be limited remotely with its "over-the-air" technology that enables the company to update smartphone software without consent from users.
The world's largest smartphone maker said the move would help Galaxy Note 7 users visit service centers quickly and get replacements for their safety. The company
has tried to contain the damage caused by smartphone explosions since it announced a global recall on September 2.
