South Korea's football supremo Chung Mong-gyu has been appointed as one of five vice presidents at Asia's governing body, the Korea Football Association (KFA) said Tuesday.
The association said Chung's appointment was endorsed by the Executive Committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Chung had been nominated by the East Asian Football Federation and AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa.
Chung will replace China's Zhang Jilong who stepped down in June. "I will do my best to expand the influence of South Korean football and develop Asia's football," Chung said in a statement.
In July, Chung, chairman of Hyundai Development Co, pulled out of the election for a seat on FIFA's main decision-making council after he was elected for his second KFA term.
