Samsung Electronics unveiled a new generation of premium smart signage displays armed with its own Tizen operating system for the first time in the world, featuring more brightness, an upgraded dustproof system, and durability.

Samsung's smart signage using Tizen included PHF (700nit brightness) and PMF (500nit brightness; except 32-inch display) models.

Samsung said the upgraded dustproof function of its new smart signage displays would be useful in public places such as subway stations and bus terminals.

All-in-one commercial displays have been touted in the digital signage industry as a way to cut out the cost and complexity of PCs, and offer a streamlined option for end users.

Samsung has pioneered "smart signage" through a combination of Tizen OS and more powerful System-on-Chip (SoC) smart displays. With Tizen, the company said its fourth-generation smart signage platform offers a stronger, faster and more stable performance than earlier generations.

Global handset and software makers have struggled to diversify from the saturated smartphone sector to wearable devices.

Samsung is also ploughing more resources into online-connected homes using Tizen, which is a key part of the firm's campaign to carve out a niche in mobile software and services and to lower its reliance on Google's Android platform that powers the vast majority of Samsung's mobile devices.

The use of Tizen so far has been limited to a handful of gadgets, but Samsung aims to apply it widely to mobile devices.
