All South Korean passengers were advised Tuesday not to use and charge Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 in flight after the tech giant announced a global ban on sales and exchanges of its combustible phone.

The advice came from South Korea's transport ministry which urged airlines and airport authorities to strengthen a security check and stop packing Note 7s in checked baggage.

The world's largest smartphone maker advised consumers to power down and turn off their Note 7 phones pending a probe into replacement phones overheating and catching fire.

Galaxy Note 7s were put on sale on August 19, but Samsung announced a global recall on September 2 due to a series of fires caused by defective batteries.

Since Samsung's new phones with replaced batteries were put back onto the shelves last month, at least eight cases of batteries exploding were reported in the United States, Taiwan, China and South Korea.
