Ryeowook, a member of South Korean idol group Super Junior, joined the army Tuesday to start five weeks of basic training at a boot camp.

The singer was to join the army in June but postponed his enlistment to focus on his international activities. He released a solo album in January and "Cosmic," a new song in collaboration with Bada, in September.

The 29-year old joined the boot camp at the army's 37th Division in Jeungpyeong some 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of Seoul.

Group leader Lee Teuk accompanied his friend to the camp where over 200 fans gathered to bid their farewell. "I'll be back soon," Ryeowook said with a military salute.

With Ryeowook joining the army, all Super Junior member but Kyuhyun completed their military service or are still in the army.

All able-bodied South Korean men aged 18-35 are required to serve in the military for about two years because the Korean peninsula is still technically at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armistice with no peace treaty signed between the two Koreas.
