South Korean singer Choi Dong-wook, known as his stage name Se7en,  urged fans Thursday to help him defeat "frustration and agony" and return to the spotlight as he unveiled his first album for four years.

"I am Se7en" was his first album since he released his mini album "Se7en New Mini Album" in 2012. Written and produced in part by the artist himself, the new album featured a wide array of genres, including dance and funk.

"I've spent time for self-reflection since I ended my military service," he told reporters, promising to resume his musical life like a beginner.

The 31-year-old singer had gained popularity as a member of the YG Entertainment family since he made his debut in 2003. His misfortune began after he was enlisted for his mandatory two-year military service in 2013. Fans turned their face away from Se7en following reports that he was involved in a prostitution scandal during his military service with a visit to an adult massage parlor.

He was discharged in late 2014 but stopped public and broadcast appearances to have time for self-restraint and reflection. "I've been trapped in a tunnel of frustration and agony without thinking of my comeback," he said.

"I know that only with this album, I cannot win over fans," the singer said, adding he was still concerned about a negative response from fans.
