CJ Group said Monday it has agreed to host a regular PGA Tour event for the first time in South Korea next year.
The South Korean conglomerate said the PGA event would be held in October next year. It would disclose the tournament's schedule and other details next week during a signing ceremony in Seoul.
The CJ tournament in South Korea will be part of the 2017-2018 PGA Tour season. The 2016-2017 season, which began with the Safeway Open last weekend in California, has 47 events, and there are only four non-US hosts -- Malaysia, China, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
South Korea's leading carmaker Hyundai Motor has been a PGA title sponsor for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions since 2011. For 10 years from 2017, it will sponsor the Genesis Open in Los Angeles.
