Samsung Electronics promised Tuesday to provide quick and full compensation to about 70 component suppliers which have seen a financial pinch due to Galaxy Note 7's suspended production.

The world's largest smartphone maker said that along with compensation, component suppliers would receive financial assistance in setting up new production lines for other smartphones. No figures were given.

A week ago, Samsung stopped global sales and exchanges of Note 7s because of renewed safe concerns over replacement handsets overheating and catching fire. Last week, the company embarked on a costly refund program.

Galaxy Note 7s were put on sale on August 19, but Samsung announced a global recall on September 2 due to a series of fires caused by defective batteries.

Since Samsung's replaced phones were put back onto the shelves, at least eight cases of replaced batteries exploding were reported in the United States, Taiwan, China and South Korea.
