S. Korea shares recoup losses from Trump's surprise victory

South Korean shares gained 2.26 percent Thursday on relieved sentiment, recouping the previous day's losses caused by Donald Trump's surprise victory in the US election.

The benchmark KOSPI rose 42.22 points to 2,002.60, helped by overnight gains on Wall Street. The local currency closed at 1,150.60 won against the US dollar.

The yield on three-year Treasurys rose 6.3 basis points to 1.465 percent and the return on the benchmark five-year government bond gained 9.4 basis points to 1.587 percent.
