Amid a sudden influx of artificial intelligence (AI) based services, Google took a huge leap in the language translation industry by introducing an advanced AI translation service better than its predecessors.

For the last ten years, Google has provided a translation service supporting 103 languages on its website and smartphone application but performance was rather clumsy. Sometimes Google's translation results in a total gibberish of words. But the new service will be different, Google said in its blog post uploaded Wednesday.

"The Neural Machine Translation rearranges and adjusts to be more like a human speaking with proper grammar," Google said. "Translated paragraphs and articles are a lot smoother and easier to read."

Google said the new AI translation service would gradually get better because of its end-to-end learning ability. The new service supports eight languages including English, French and Korean.

"These represent the native languages of around one-third of the world's population, covering more than 35 percent of all Google Translate queries!," said Google, which aims to gradually expand the range of AI translation-supported languages to the former level.

AI-based services have boomed in the last couple of years. The current trend is the AI-based voice assistant, featured in computers and smart devices. Users can ask, order and share a chat, receiving simple information through a conversation-like process. Currently, only simple information like weather and road conditions are provided.
