Big Bang's T.O.P., whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, will start his mandatory military service as a conscripted policeman next year.

The metropolitan police agency posted a notice that Choi would do alternative service as a police band member in Seoul. He would join an army boot camp on February 9.

Choi will be the first Big Bang member to enlist in the two-year mandatory service. YG Entertainment said earlier that T.O.P, the oldest member, would enlist first while other members plan to start their military service one by one.

All able-bodied South Korean men aged 18-35 are required to serve in the military for about two years because the Korean peninsula is still technically at war as the 1950-53 Korean War ended in an armistice with no peace treaty signed between the two Koreas.
