North Korea cut in on South Korea's political morass, accusing conservative groups of fanning security awareness to help President Geun-hye escape from crisis.

A North Korean state body in charge of cross-border affairs claimed Saturday that South Korean warships and military drones have intruded into northern territory across the border in an attempt to provoke an armed conflict.

"Such maneuvering is nothing but a sinister scheme to provoke and draw our side into an inter-Korean armed conflict," the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in a statement published through Pyongyang's state media.

The committee accused South Korean troops and conservative groups of trying to create an excuse for distracting public attention and stifling public protests calling for Park's ouster.

Some pro-Park groups have slammed anti-government protesters for staging candle-lit rallies at the instigation of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Thousands of elderly people supporting President Park rallied in Seoul Saturday with placards saying "Candles are an order from Kim Jong-un!" or "Stop witchhunt!"
