South Korea's scandal-stricken President Park Geun-hye has received placenta injections at her residence not for beauty treatment but for health care, the presidential clinic said.

Park has been pestered by rumors that she received beauty shots of unknown nature with unauthorized injections brought in by her arrested crony Choi Soon-sil, who has been at the center of a corruption.

The official list of medicine and medical supplies purchased by Park's presidential Blue House included those used widely in plastic surgery and skin care clinics.

At a special parliamentary investigation Monday, legislators claimed that Park had received prescriptions for beauty shots including placenta injections. Lee Sun-woo, who heads a presidential clinic, admitted such injections had been used for Park and other presidential staff.

However, Park was the only person who got injected with placenta shots, he said, adding the president had used other injections only for health care.

"I cannot specify the exact purposes for the shots as it may reveal the health condition of the president but they were not for beauty purposes," Lee said. "The injections are one of many typical antioxidants and they are used for strengthening immune systems and health care."

Lee's testimony contracted an earlier statement that such drugs and medical supplies had been kept as alternatives only to provide timely and quick medical services to security guards, soldiers, aides and other employees at the presidential office.
