Gaumont Film, a French film studio will remake South Korea's zombie thriller "Train to Busan" in English, the film's distributor, NEW, said Thursday.

The film starring Gong Yoo attracted more than 10 million viewers when it was released in July. It depicts passengers battling against an attack by people infected with a mysterious virus on a bullet train.

NEW said the film's remake right has been sold to Gaumont, which is known for hit films such as "Leon" and "Point Blank". Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I hope this will provide an opportunity for Korean movies to attract more attention from movie fans in the world," NEWS head Kim Woo-taek told reporters. Studios from the United States and other nations have shown their interest in the film, but the French company won its remake rights, he said.
