Samsung Electronics, the world's largest smartphone maker, showed interest in drones by acquiring a patent for drones resembling a flying saucer. There was no official comment from the tech giant about its drone project.
The Korea Intellectual Property Office said Samsung secured a patent a week ago for its drone. Designs drawn up by Samsung showed a drone which looks like a flying disk, with a wafter rotating inside an open fuselage.
Chinese products led by DJI dominate the South Korean drone market. There is no South Korean rival to compete with DJI mainly because of legal restrictions. South Korea bans drone flights in crowded urban areas and near military bases for the sake of privacy and safety.
