Producers of South Korea's popular TV variety show Running Man have apologized to Song Ji-hyo and Kim Jong-kook who were blindsided by a series of unexpected news that they would be expelled.

The producers apologized for breaking the hearts of Song and Kim with a sudden decision and said in a statement: "We were busy trying to fulfill the goal of launching the second season of Running Man in January and failed to communicate with our members in the process."

The departure of Song and Kim who have appeared on the show from its very first episode for about seven years has shocked fans. The producers were accused of ignoring the opinion of the two regular members and fans. Some threatened to boycott the show unless the expelled stars come back.

Kang Ho-dong, a former Korean wrestling champion and popular entertainer, has retracted his decision to join the show, claiming he did not know about friction between the producers and the outgoing members.
