Samsung Electronics may use batteries produced by a domestic rival for new smartphones due to lingering consumer concerns about its combustible Galaxy Note 7, according to multiple media reports.

The tech giant has been cautious about its next flagship following a global recall of its Galaxy Note 7 that tarnished the company's reputation as the world's largest smartphone maker .

IT and finance specialist media EBN said that Samsung is positive about receiving LG Chem's batteries. "In order to diversify its battery source, Samsung is in talks with LG," an insider was quoted as saying.

Koh Dong-jin, who heads Samsung's mobile division, said in September that the South Korean giant could receive batteries from anther company instead of Samsung SDI and China's ATL.

Samsung would have to bear the burden of gradually phasing out batteries from SDI and ATL if it wants to LG batteries. Experts predict Samsung may not use LG batteries for Galaxy S8 to be released probably in early 2017.
