"Your Name", a Japanese romance fantasy drama film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai, topped South Korea's box office on its opening day this week. It's quite rare for any Japanese animation films to make a great hit here.

The animation film, screened at 555 theaters in South Korea, collected 138,028 viewers on Wednesday, ahead of the South Korean action flick "Master", according to tallies from the Korean Film Council.

The Hollywood sci-fi "Passengers" and the South Korean comedy "Because I Love You" was third and fourth respectively.

Your Name, based on Shinkai's novel of the same name released on June 18, 2016, depicts the miraculous fates involving a Tokyo high school and a rural high school, who one day switch bodies.

It received critical acclaim and was also a commercial success, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
