Samsung Electronics usually unveils its new flagship smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in February, but the tech giant may delay its launch until April, according to various media reports.

The Seoul-based online media OSEN reported Samsung provisionally agreed to release the S8 on April 18. An industry insider was quoted as saying the world's largest smartphone maker would hold an unpacking event in late March or at the first week of April at the latest.

The insider said that because of the combustible Note 7 fiasco which took place in September last year, Samsung is taking a cautious approach in releasing the S8.

Rumors claimed the S8 would feature an iris scanner, a security system used by Samsung's failed Note7, or a rear dual-lens camera and an artificial intelligence voice assistant software.
