Girl Scouts of the USA was battered by heavy criticism on Twitter for its decision to march at Donald Trump's inaugural parade this week.

The US Presidential Inaugural Committee's statement stirred up a Twitter storm earlier this week as it listed the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America as participants for the parade.

Infuriated Twitter users criticized the Girl Scouts because Trump has made statements degrading women and their values. The remarks collide against the organization's motto, as it was created to empower girls.

Girl Scouts defended its move on Twitter noting "Since 1917, Girl Scouts have engaged in Presidential inaugural events," but was pounded by series of Tweets filled with anger.

"I'm the mother of a Girl Scout and I hope you reconsider your participation. Trump does *not* honor your values," tweeted Sarah Kendzior, a media writer and mother of a Girl Scout member. Her tweet received thousands of likes and retweets on Wednesday.

The Girl Scouts tried to calm the Twitter storm by saying it would send a separate group of members to the Women's March event on Saturday. Yet online criticism is getting fiercer.
