South Korean Ambassador to Myanmar rejected his connection with President Park Geun-hye's jailed crony Tuesday before being questioned by special prosecutors over a government aid program in the Southeast Asian country.

Yoo Jae- kyung , a former Samsung Group executive, has been summoned for a special investigation into corruption by Choi Soon-sil, who is suspected of having tried to gain illicit profits from a state project to build a 65 million US dollar convention center called "K-town" in Myanmar.

Yoo insisted there has been no connection between him and Choi in the project aimed at housing South Korean firms to promote business ties in Myanmar. "The K-town project in Myanmar has been shelved because it's not viable," he told reporters before facing an interrogation.

He also dismissed Choi's involvement in his appointment as South Korea's top envoy in Myanmar in May last year. Samsung is suspected of gaining illicit business favors in return for sponsoring the equestrian training of Choi's daughter Chung Yoo-ra, who is in custody in Denmark.

Park was impeached by parliament on December 9 at the height of anti-government protests that have seen millions of citizens taking to the streets. The president insisted she was not involved in any wrongdoing, though she is accused of allowing Choi to meddle in important state affairs and collect corporate cash donations.
