Kakao Talk is creating a new paradigm in South Korea's saturated mobile gaming industry with its cross-platform gaming service, "Star Play", that allow users to enjoy mobile games with a keyboard and mouse.

The country's smartphone messenger app put Star Play into service on Wednesday, emulating Android OS smartphone games on PCs.

"We hope to create a new paradigm in South Korea's stagnant mobile gaming industry," said a Kakao official. "We will provide a totally new game platform by tearing down physical boundaries between smart devices and PCs."

Android emulation on PCs is possible, but many third-party emulation programs developed so far share a common problem like limited compatibility and communication with servers.

Kakao said it has maximized Star Play's compatibility to attract users from different platforms such as Mac users. For now, Star Play is only available in a Windows version but the messenger app plans to release a new version for Mac later. Playing smartphone games on PC would attract many heavy users who worry about their smartphones overheating and those who suffer from severe battery drain.
