Samsung, the most influential player in the global TV market, is determined to maintain its leadership with a new premium lineup of LED TVs that will be released this spring.

The lineup, unveiled on Wednesday, included "The Frame", a new QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diode) TV with its display connected to a controller unit via "Invisible Connection", using an optical cable. It can be hung virtually anywhere and blend into the surrounding space free of cables and wires.

Quantum dot display technology provides much clearer and brighter images than conventional LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or LED displays.

"Previously, TVs only provided a viewing experience in confined spaces," said Samsung Electronics Visual Display Business head Kim Hyun-suk. "From now, it will evolve into a totally new platform, unlimited from surrounding space and contents."

Yves Behar, a famous industrial designer, said he always thought of a TV set "beautiful as an art piece even when it is not watched". Through Samsung's technology, his idea became true.

The Frame shows a series of landscape, drawings and other images, disguising itself as an art fixture when it's on display with other art pieces.

Experts predict Samsung's new premium TV would work as a counterpunch to LG's "Signature OLED TV W", which was introduced at the 106 Consumer Electronics Show in January. The 0.15 inch thin, 65-inch "Wallpaper TV" carries a similar concept with The Frame. LG's display unit to be released during the first half of this year is wirelessly connected to a controller unit box called "Innovation Stage".
