A 45-year-old mentally retarded woman was arrested Tuesday for abandoning her newly-born female baby into a toilet bowl at a commercial building, police said. She is suspected of bringing out a child alone in the toilet.
The baby carrying an umbilical cord was found dead by a security guard at 5:40 am (2040 GMT) inside the toilet bowl at the building in a commercial district in Suwon south of Seoul, police said.
She allegedly told investigators that she cut the umbilical cord for herself before dumping her baby. With images captured by security cameras, police launched a manhunt. She was caught wandering the streets about 300 meters away from the building, police said, adding the woman is mentally retarded.
