Dara, a former member of South Korea's iconic girl group 2NE1, hopes to test her talent as an actress in a low-cost film "One Step" that will be screened in April.

"I've chosen 'One Step' as my first film just because it's about music," Dara said at a media conference Tuesday. "I knew nothing about colored hearing (synesthesia) so I stuck to my imagination while I was acting."

"Through this movie, I'm taking my first step to realize my dream," she said, adding it's not easy to digest the job of singing and acting together. "I think I was more excited to try new things than the burden of making my first movie appearance."

One Step is a film about an amnesiac genius composer who suffers from colored hearing, trying to find her lost memories. Synesthesia is a neurological disorder with symptoms that a person hears colors, sees sounds and tastes colors.

The film is attracting attention from movie fans as it was produced in just 25 days. Directed by Juhn Jai-Hong, One Step also stars veteran actor Han Jae-suk.

Through One Step, Dara makes her debut as a movie star, but the 32-year-old has experienced in acting through TV dramas and short web-dramas. It is also Dara's first official activity after 2NE1 disbanded in November last year after its successful seven-year run.
