South Korea's LG Electronics has filed a lawsuit against American mobile phone maker BLU for infringing on its patents on long-term evolution (LTE) technology in the first legal action of its kind in the United States.

In its suit filed at a court in Delaware, LG accused BLU of violating five of its patents related to the LTE network, a 4G mobile communications standard. BLU phones are targeted at low-income people.

The South Korean company said it has asked the US International Trade Commission to suspend sales of BLU smartphones, insisting the US firm has not responded to four notices sent about its patent infringement. LG has many patents related to LTE technologies in the United States. The suit came after LG released its new flagship smartphone G6.
