Hyundai Motor, the world's fifth-largest carmaker, vowed Thursday to lead the future car industry, showcasing a new service with its connected car technology at an international motor show in Seoul.
"Hyundai will become the center of the fast-changing world by leading the connected car technologies," said Hyundai Motor vice chairman Yang Woong-chul during a media conference at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show.
A connected car is an autonomous driving vehicle capable of interacting with other devices connected to a web of networks. The car uses a mobile network to send and receive data such as traffic conditions, surrounding environments and information from other connected devices.
"Boundaries which have separated car technologies from IT technologies are collapsing," said Yang. He demonstrated the connected car tech by calling an autonomous driving IONIQ, Hyundai's electric vehicle, onto the main stage and ordered it to move out later, saying it was a clear demonstration of "Home To Car" technology.
Hyundai aims to introduce the Home to Car service next year, linking it with autonomous driving technology. Its "Car to home" service, which allows a driver to control other devices through a connected car, will be unveiled in 2019.
