Cathryn Lee, a Malaysian-Chinese actress and model known as "Piano Goddess", has been selected as an honorary ambassador for South Korea's southern resort island of Jeju.
She will appear in propaganda and virtual reality videos aimed at luring tourists especially from Southeast Asia. The island's tourism organization will hold an official event to nominate her on Friday.
Jeju used to be the most favored destination for Chinese tourists, but it has been hit hard by a diplomatic row over the deployment of a US missile shield in South Korea that prompted Beijing to take retaliatory steps including a travel ban.
Lee has appeared in several movies and television productions in Malaysia and Singapore. She is a talented pianist known to wear sexy outfits during her performances.
