A recent investigation into the destruction of official posters for South Korea's presidential election next month left investigators helpless because they could not find any clue or evidence. Digging through security camera footages, they finally heaved a sigh of relief after finding out a cat duo was responsible.

The posters on the primary school wall in Busan some 310 kilometers (192 miles) southwest of Seoul were found ripped apart on Saturday morning, triggering an investigation by police who dispatched a dozen investigators including forensic investigators to the scene.

CCTV footages showed two cats, one sitting on top of the wall and the other beneath shortly. About 30 seconds later when the security camera panned back, the animals were gone, leaving the posters ripped.

Police closed the case because there were no passers-by through the alleyway but the cats. Acts of damaging or defiling election posters provide for a maxim two-year jail term or a fine of up to four million won (3,531 US dollars).

In the race to pick the successor of former president Park Geun-hye who was impeached and ousted for her involvement in a corruption scandal, 15 candidates including Moo Jae-in of the main opposition Democratic Parry are running.
