A 36-year-old massage parlor employee was sentenced to two years and six months in prison for blackmailing the actor brother of South Korea's long-running sex icon Uhm Jung-hwa to wrest money with false allegations that she was raped.

The court in Seoul's southern satellite city of Seongnam ruled that the woman identified as her surname Kwon was found guilty of making false accusations that hurt the image of Uhm Tae-woong and inflicted mental torture on him.

Kwon allegedly taped her sex with the actor with the help of her massage parlor owner. The court rejected her claim that she was forced to have sex without prior consent. In November last year, the actor was slapped with a fine of one million won (880 US dollars) for buying sex.

Illegal brothels disguised as massage parlors are common in South Korea and many other countries.
