A photograph showing a primary school teacher carrying a 12-year-old student with a fractured ankle on his back during a field trip went viral this week, warming the hearts of people.

Lee Yong-hyun, a 32-year-old teacher at a primary school in a seaside village in Gochang, some 240 kilometers (149 miles) southwest of Seoul, was troubled to find out his student, Kang Sung-kwan, had his ankle fractured in May 2016 with only a few days left until a two-day field trip.

Because the trip covers a large area on foot, the boy was not sure of going together, but he made it after the teacher told the student's parents that he would take care of Kang.

Kang uploaded the piggyback ride picture onto the education ministry's website to apply for an event marking Teacher's Day on May 15. "My teacher carried me around on his back all the time during a school field trip," he wrote. "It was raining, and I was so thankful and sorry."

"Honestly, Kang was heavier than I thought," the teacher told Yonhap News Agency. "It was alright because my student was so happy."
