Samsung will introduce the world's first "stretchable" OLED display at this week's "2017 SID", an international exhibition for the display industry, in Los Angeles. Unlike flexible displays which can be folded or stretched to one direction, the next generation product is stretchable to all sides.

Samsung said its new display is able to recover stretched or shrunken parts like a balloon. "For the first time in the world, we were able to create a display which could be stretched to a maximum depth of 12 millimeters while maintaining its full resolution," said a Samsung official.

Samsung said its 9.1-inch sized OLED display is suitable for use in the wearable industry and the vehicle infotainment system. At the exhibition, the company will introduce other technologies such as ultra-high resolution LCD and a 3D OLED display which needs no dedicated goggles.
