A cow escaped from a loading truck en route to a slaughterhouse and broke into an apartment complex, triggering an urgent message of alarm: "There's a cow roaming about in this apartment complex. Residents, please stay inside. Elderlies and children should be extra careful."

The message was sent out Monday after residents in Gwangju, some 260 kilometers (164 miles) south of Seoul, saw the cow running through the parking lot of their apartment complex.

"It broke my heart to see the cow roaming about. It seemed to know its fate," said an apartment superintendent. The cow had strolled through the complex for 40 minutes before firefighters, apartment guards and slaughterhouse workers herded the animal back into a truck.
