"Stag" by Nam June Paik (1932-2006), a Korean American video artist, has been auctioned in Hong Kong for about 590,000 US dollars excluding a sales commission, according to Seoul Auction.
The auction was held on Sunday, and it was the highest auction record for Paik's work. The previous record was set by his Wright Brothers, a 1995 propeller-plane-like tableau comprising 14 TV monitors.
Paik, who worked with a variety of media, is considered to be the founder of video art. The artist, born in Seoul, moved to New York in 1964 and died on January 29, 2006, in Miami.
