Members of South Korea's popular boy group BTS attributed their success to constant communication with fans through social media and the trendy music sound combined with powerful and synchronized team dancing.

That's not all that propelled the seven-member boy band to stardom. After BTS became the first South Korean artist group to be awarded Billboard's Top Social Artist award, group members revealed their secret that they have shared since their debut on June 13, 2013.

"It is important that we feel sincere when we make music. The keyword ... is sincerity and communication," group leader Rap Monster told reporters in Seoul.

BTS, also known as Bangtan Boys, was the second South Korean artist or artist group to win a Billboard award. "Gangnam Style" star Psy won the Top Streaming Song award in 2013. Since fan voting started on May 1, many K-pop fans at home and abroad have shared information via social media with a hashtag "#BTSBBMAS" being used more than 300 million times on Twitter.

Rap Monster said the trendy music sound combined with powerful and synchronized team dancing appealed to foreign fans.

"The success of Psy has come overnight with the explosive global syndrome of music videos and content. However, we have expanded our fandom gradually by communicating consistently through SNS to show our sincerity with music and music videos," he said, thanking fans for translating Korean lyrics in various languages in real time.

Members all agreed that they have been loved by fans at home and abroad for telling a story through their music and showing good teamwork. "Since our debut, we have emphasized teamwork using only team accounts. Fans wonder how we live," said Jimin.

"Fans seem to like our style of telling a story through our music, growing step-by-step and showing powerful choreography," Jin said.

They will continue to rap and sing in Korean while their next goal is to be ranked high on Billboard's single chart Hot 100. "We will work hard to communicate with fans while steadily maintaining the music that we have been pursuing rather than the tremendous goal of entering the US market," Rap Monster said.
