Samsung SDI has completed the construction of a new plant in Hungary that could produce cell batteries for 50,000 electric vehicles annually from the second quarter of next year.
Samsung SDI, the sister firm of tech giant Samsung Electronics, has converted its former cathode ray tube plant near Budapest into a plant capable of producing lithium-ion batteries. The Hungary plant would become its production base in Europe.
Samsung SDI has a major battery plant in China but its business in the world's largest electric vehicle market faces a tough challenge due to restrictions.
