Angry fans are boycotting a popular K-pop artist for deceiving them and failing to make proper explanations in a very rare situation in the South Korean music scene which has been well known for devoted and blind support from fans.

"SUNGMIN OUT!", read a red banner on an online fan community for boy group Super Junior. A group of community members released a statement last week urging Sungmin, 32, to stop all activities and leave.

"We will not support Sungmin who has ignored fans. We will boycott every activity involving Sungmin," they said. The open fan community was famous for its supporting power including expensive gifts, catering services and charity events.

In 2014, Sungmin was criticized for making a sudden marriage announcement. Fans were angry because he got married in December when the group was preparing for an album with some group members away in military camps for their mandatory military service.

Fans argued Sungmin responded with an arrogant and insincere manner and deleted comments from his social media. A 32-year-old fan who identified herself by her surname Jin told Aju News that the artist should have avoided such a situation if he showed "a sincere manner to fans' demands".
