Dozens of anti-terror commandoes and bomb disposal units were rushed to a university campus in Seoul to evacuate students and faculty members after a misfired homemade bomb was found in the lab of a professor.
The blast wounded a 47-year-old professor at Yonsei University's School of Mechanical Engineering, and police retrieved an improvised homemade explosive using a coffee tumbler and bolts because it did not go off well.
The professor told investigators that the bomb exploded when he opened a parcel inside a shopping bag hanging on a doorknob of his lab. He was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment of the burns on his neck, chest, hands and his right arm, but he was not in serious condition.
A photograph released by police showed a blackened tumbler and a set of batteries along with a paper delivery package with one side blown out.
The explosion was not powerful, but dozens of police and military anti-terror commandoes, backed by forensic experts and bomb disposal units, sealed off a campus building to see if it was related to any terrorist attack.
