A bungee jump manager was given a suspended sentence for negligence because he was found guilty of failing to secure a safety rope for a young woman during her jump to a lake. The shocking scene, contained in a video taken by her friends, went viral in South Korean online communities.
The 30-year-old manager was sentenced to six months in prison but his sentence was suspended for two years. Separately, he received an 80-hour social service order.
The incident took place at Gangchon, a resort town about 65 kilometers (40 miles) northeast of Seoul, in September last year when a 29-year-old woman identified by her surname, Yoo, jumped off a 42-meter-high tower without knowing her safety cord was not secured.
Fortunately, she was rescued and regained her consciousness at a hospital three days later. She had to stay in a hospital for ten weeks for treatment of severe bruises all over her body induced by the impact of her fall
