A death threat has heightened security for South Korea's popular girl group Apink. The group's agency said police are investigating cyber bullies accused of making malicious online comments. The threat came as Apink was in preparation for its comeback on June 26, but their comeback would not be affected.

A man made a phone call on Wednesday to a police station in southern Seoul, threatening to kill Apink members. Six officers were dispatched immediately to the headquarters of the group's agency, Plan A Entertainment, to protect Apink members.

"Police officers came to us after a death threat was made through a phone call," an agency official told Aju News Thursday, adding police have launched an investigation to locate the man.

The officers have returned to their station, but the agency is maintaining a channel of communication with them to share the schedule of the girls and their whereabouts. "We will ensure their safety by dispatching private security guards as well as managers," said the official.

Police are investigating cyber bullies who have posted malicious comments against Apink members, the agency official said.
