To make up for its humiliating global recall caused by faulty exploding batteries, Samsung will unleash "Galaxy Note Fan Edition" (Galaxy Note FE), a revised version of Note7 with smaller and safer batteries on July 7.

"The Note FE is created from unused parts of Note 7 and mint in box products," the company said in a statement. "The FE means a great thing for Samsung as it is an eco-friendly project which makes the full use of Note 7 parts, preventing the resource waste."

Only 40,000 units of the Note FE priced at 699,000 won (611 US dollars) will be released at home. While FE's hardware specs are mostly the same as its older brother, batteries are reduced from 3,500mAh to 3,200mAh. "With an 'eight-point battery test', we have ensured the safety of Note FE's batteries," explained Samsung.

Some major software upgrades were made. The revised version will house the same operating system and user interfaces as Samsung's latest smartphones -- "Galaxy S8" and "Galaxy S8+", along with their key features such as iris recognition, an artificial intelligence voice assistant system "Bixby", and user support apps.
