Samsung Electronics will release "Galaxy A7", a 5.7-inch budget smartphone armed with key features of the company's premium lineup such as Bixby, an artificial intelligence assistant platform.

A7, which will hit the market on Friday through SK Telecom, South Korea's largest mobile carrier, supports Samsung's trademark digital wallet service "Samsung Pay" and a fingerprint scanner.

The budget phone priced at 588,500 won (513 US dollars) is also IP68-class waterproof, capable of surviving a dip of 1.5 meters underwater for 30 minutes. A7 is fitted with a 3,600 mAh battery, large enough to last a whole day of continuous usage.

Samsung's A lineup has settled as smartphones favored by light users at a time when competition is getting fierce at home.  Domestic rival LG Electronics has challenged Samsung with a variety of budget phones with its  X series and Q series.  Chinese brands led by Xiaomi attract consumers with much cheaper phones.
