South Koreans spend an average 100 minutes commuting to and from work every day, or two hours in the case of Seoul residents, a survey said Monday.

Job Korea, an Internet portal for employment, recently asked 820 men and women on their commuting patterns, and found they spend 101.1 minutes coming to and from the office. Going to work took 48.1 minutes, and coming home 53 minutes. In case of people living in Seoul, the commute was 134.7 minutes.

The survey said 27.7 percent of the commuters use the subway, while 26.3 percent drove their own cars. Buses were used by 20.7 percent, and buses plus the subway accounted for 17.1 percent. Among Seoulites, 44.4 percent used the subway and 20.1 percent buses and the subway. Another 18.1 percent said they use buses exclusively.

Asked what they do during the commute, 48.4 percent said they listened to music and 43.9 percent answered they surf the Internet for news. Respondents were allowed to pick more than one answer. Another 21 percent said they listen to the radio, 20.5 percent said they play mobile games and 14.3 percent said they are on social networking services.
