There are many stories of heroic dogs saving their owners' lives but this story is a little different. A heroic dog named Storm jumps into the ocean to save a baby deer from drowning.

It was a peaceful Sunday morning. Mark Freeley, his family, and his golden retriever Storm were enjoying their routine morning walk on a coastal trail in Port Jefferson, New York. Then all of sudden Storm jumped into the ocean startling Freeley, his family, and his golden retriever Storm were enjoying their routine morning walk on a coastal trail in Port Jefferson, New York. Then all of sudden Storm jumped into the ocean startling Freeley. Soon after Freeley realized what his heroic canine was trying to do, trying to rescue a fawn struggling in the water.

Storm gently grabbed the distressed baby deer by its neck and started swimming toward the shore. Once safely arrived on land, Storm stopped the fawn from running away and started licking and nudging it like a nurturing mother. Freeley recorded the whole rescue.

He contacted Strong Island Animal Rescue to get the help the fawn needed. The volunteers, Frankie Floridia and Erika Kutzing, from the rescue organization arrived at the scene and tried to bring the distressed deer to their vehicle. However, their presence startled the fawn and it jumped back into the ocean, trying to escape. Floridia jumped into the water to save the deer and successfully retrieved the fawn back to the land.

The volunteers loaded the baby deer into their vehicle and drove to the local wildlife rehabilitators. The fawn had an injured eye, but otherwise healthy and expected to make a full recovery. Once recovered, it will be released back to the wild. Once recovered, it will be released back to the wild.
